BISON BILLIARDS RESULTS
Adam Smith went undefeated to win the tournament yesterday! Congrats to Alicia Busalachi(S.L.3) and Julie Miszuk (S.L.4) for a strong 5/6th place finish. To me, the story of the tournament was about Junior sensation, Jake Jackson. Twice during the final match, playing for first place, Jake corrected his opponent about shooting the wrong ball. Incredible resolve and character for a young man. Sportsmanship over self satisfaction and money. This young gun has integrity along with talent. It’s an honor having him in our pool room.
1st $1180.00 Adam Smith
2nd $740.00 Jake Jackson
3rd $430.00 Scott Gilson
4th $215.00 Matt Mendola
5/6th $40.00 ea. Alicia Busalachi/ Julie Miszuk
We try to temper our excitement regarding any ‘up and coming’ pool stars who show up on our AZBilliards’ radar by virtue of any small sample of cash payouts, up to and including a single win in a regional tour setting. Players come and go, and a good number of them can occasionally perform above their general ‘pay grade’ in isolated circumstances. That said, there’s something notable about the ongoing history of Curtis Wright. Three and half months ago, he won his first (recorded with us) regional tour title, going undefeated at the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour’s 37th Ocean State 9-Ball Championship at Snooker’s in Providence, RI. It was only his fifth recorded cash payout with us, dating back to just over five years ago, when he finished 5th at a stop on the New England 9-Ball Series (Oct. 18, 2020).
Two years later, he finished 4th in the New England 9-Ball Series’ Tour finale. The following year (’23), he was runner-up to Lukas Fracasso-Verner at a 10-ball event, hosted by A‘Mazin’ Billiards in Malden, MA (defeated in the hot seat match, he did not play in a final against LFV because an arrangement to split the top prizes occurred ahead of the semifinal). Last year, Wright took home cash in four separate events; two of them on the Joss Tour, including that first regional tour win this past November. From a starting year on our AZBilliards Money Leaderboard in which he finished at #893, he dipped down to #614 in ’22 and even further down, to #1,212, in ’23. He skipped a year and finished 2025 at #232, bringing home a little over four times the (recorded) amount of cash that he’d earned in all three of his previously recorded years.Â
This past weekend (Jan. 31-Feb. 1), at the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour’s Massachusetts State 9-Ball Championships (IV), Wright went undefeated to claim his second Joss tour title. The $1,500-added event drew 49 entrants to A‘Mazin’ Billiards. Though Wright’s history, as recorded with us, demonstrates only eight cash-payout finishes in five years (and a month), it can be assumed that he hasn’t been pool-idle in the gaps between appearances. It can also be assumed that he won’t be idling at his current ‘rank’ in any rating system for long.Â
Wright’s trip to the MA State 9-Ball title, based on the six match wins he recorded to claim it, suggest that he faced some challenges. In races to 9, his opponents averaged six racks against him (6.3). His first opponent (Jeff Furness) chalked up exactly that many and his second (Justin Muller) challenged him double hill. He survived that, defeated Omar Ashiq 9-5 and drew Joss NE 9-Ball Tour veteran Bob Madenjian in one of the winners’ side semifinals.
In the meantime, bound for a battle versus Wright in the hot seat match and final, was Jake Jackson. Looking for his first regional tour victory, with a number of recorded, cash-finish payouts on the Joss Tour, dating back to 2024, and like Wright, coming off of his best recorded earnings year, Jackson’s opponents would average seven racks-against. Bochen Jiang chalked up exactly that many against him in their opening-round match. Kiet Mieu would add four and Joey Dupuis would add six more, as Wright advanced to his winners’ side semifinal against Chad Bazinet.
Wright downed Madenjian 9-5 and was joined in the hot seat match by Jackson, who’d sent Bazinet off to the loss-side’s 5th/6th matches 9-7. Wright claimed the hot seat 9-6.
The day before the hot seat match occurred on Sunday, Feb. 1, the name looming largest on the loss-side event horizon was Jeremy Sossei, who came into the 11th stop on the Joss NE 9-Ball Tour’s ‘25/’26 season looking for his 6th win. That ‘search’ for a 6th season title got sidetracked in the opening round of play. Had it not been for his defeat at the hands of Justin Muller, Sossei might have faced Curtis Wright, two matches later on the winners’ side. But, of course, he did not.
As it turned out, Sossei didn’t make it out of the 9th/12th matches. He came to the loss side and won three, ahead of facing Joey Dupuis in one of those 9/12 matches. The two battled back and forth to double hill, before Dupuis advanced to defeat Ivaylo Petrov 7-5 (on Sunday) and draw Bob Mandenjian, coming over from his winners’ side semifinal loss to Wright.
Second place to Shane Winters. Spent the day with SVB!
Great finish to today’s nine ball tournament!
Jake Miosi went undefeated to win it all.
Jake Jackson finished strong for second place. The young guns doing it again! Tough field with seven shooters over 600 Fargo. Finished at 9:30pm
1st $1400.00 Jake Miosi
2nd $850.00 Jake Jackson
3rd $450.00 Michael Rodriguez
4th $260.00 Vinnie Lesh
5/6 $50.00 each Tom Handley/Joe Kleitz
BISON BILLIARDS results from yesterday’s big table nine ball double elimination tournament.
1st $820.00 Jake Jackson (16 yrs old)
2nd $450.00 Bryzen Manilupa (17yr old)
3rd $240.00 Jay Reed
4th $40.00 Chuck Philleo
This was a real strong field with several Fargo ratings over 600. Great to see the younger players rising to the top. Jake won the hot seat and Bryzen came out of the losers bracket to beat Jake the first set but lost on the hill in the second set. Great to see them play it out, not splitting.
